According to AbroadEd, online programs will continue to share a wider share of higher education across the world because of the great benefits it brings to students.
While the new learning method is growing and experiencing numerous adoptions worldwide, it also leaves room for improvement for a better learning experience.
AbroadEd could confirm that McKinsey recently surveyed more than 7,000 students in 17 countries who described their online experience and areas where they believe online programs can improve for better learning experiences for students.
Areas to Improve by Online Programs
Students appreciate the flexibility and convenience online programs offer. However, some peculiar pitfalls of online programs cannot be overlooked.
Students in 80 per cent of the countries surveyed by McKinsey said they would like online programs to improve peer-to-peer interactions and the ease of receiving support from instructors and others.
AbroadEd highlights areas where online programs must improve to attract and engage learners.
- Online programs should be solid on the basics
Online programs must pay close attention to the basic features that inform the online learning experience. Features such as timely content, course structure, faculty relevance and recorded classes are what online learners find satisfying. Online courses need to be well-organized with a clear path and step-by-step guide to get the best out of the program.
- Expensive features do equate to valuable features
Many online learners didn’t rank several expensive features such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) or simulations as valuable to their learning experience. Rather, students would prefer to have networking or socializing features for peer-to-peer learning in their online program.
